Varnishes

Varnishing your painting is always a good idea.  It will protect your painting from dust, dirt and general wear and tear which could permanently affect the look of the painting and leave you spending hours trying to repair it.  All of this can be avoided by giving your painting a quick coat of varnish!

There are plenty of varnishes available from brands such as Winsor & Newton and Daler Rowney which are suitable for oil, alkyd, acrylic and watercolour, ensuring you can protect your painting no matter what material you are using.

If it all goes wrong or if you want to clean your painting underneath the layer of varnish, there is varnish remover to help strip the whole lot off so you can start again.

Spray varnishes are also available; perfect for working with more sculptural, impasto paintings, in a variety of finishes ranging from matt to a high gloss dammar varnish.
