Technical & Clutch Pencils

If you’ve ever worked on a technical drawing in pencil you’ll be well aware that you can never rely on an ordinary graphite pencil to give you a consistent line width and consistent tone in your drawings.  This is exactly the reason we have technical pencils.

Technical pencils are simply a pencil with a replaceable, fixed width lead, enabling you to draw a line that will still be 0.5mm, even if you’ve been drawing for hours!  Clutch pencils are very similar, only the lead is a good bit thicker than on your run-of-the-mill technical pencil, and don’t have the same clicky, propelling qualities!

If well looked after, a good technical pencil or clutch pencil will last you years, so get a good batch of replacement leads, be careful not to lose the pencil, and you’re sorted!
