Looking for some inspiration? Why not pop along to this year’s RSA Annual Exhibition? The Royal Scottish Academy’s 185th Annual Exhibition of Art and Architecture is on in Edinburgh until the 8th June, but just because it’s older than a geriatric tortoise don’t make the mistake of thinking this show will be outdated or boring. The RSA annual show is always overflowing with artwork from a diverse group of artists carefully selected from RSA members, Scottish art students and the general public. 2011 is no exception!
This year’s exhibition has incorporated the creative process throughout the gallery, displaying cases of sketchbooks, working drawings, artists’ tools and photographs to bring the studio into the gallery setting. Very interesting, especially if, like us, you like a good nosy at other folk’s workings.
The show has been curated by Victoria Crowe and includes loads of big Scottish names like Elizabeth Blackadder, Ken Currie and John Byrne. We think it is well worth paying the capital a visit for.
