If ever there was a course that could guarantee (well almost) you a place at art school then it’s the portfolio course at Glasgow’s much loved Tramway. Run by Willie Nelson and his talented team, their student success rate is phenomenal. This year sees 23 students being accepted to the country’s biggest and best-est art schools including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds and Northumberland. The students have gone on to study a multitude of courses from fine art, sculpture, jewellery, textiles and print making and rest assured that when it comes to learning these guys are the art equivalent of Mr Miyagi as tutors.
We popped along to see the fruits of their efforts and must say that all the work on show is impressive. If we were to pick one student that stood out, it would have to be Anna Thomson whose landscape studies were beautiful and would hang very nicely on the walls of Artstore.co.uk HQ. Fingers-crossed!
What’s even more impressive is that some of the students are barely 18 yet all are producing work you would expect of a mature student. It is clear that the emphasis Willie puts on developing creativity is paying off and perhaps this is what puts them ahead of the more structured HN courses when it comes to claiming those highly sought after art school places.
A very talented bunch, and well worth paying the show a visit so you can grab yourself a bargain before they hit the big time and their prices go off the rails.
