Last night we took a wee trip to Cumbernauld College to see what budding talent was on offer at their end of year show and we must say it was well worth the journey. The students presented their guests with an array of arty delights and we thoroughly enjoyed sampling each of the art-based treats on display before heading back home.
Both the students and their tutors must be commended for achieving such a high standard of work, especially since most of the students, who were taken on only a year ago, were straight out of school. Each student exhibiting has demonstrated a great deal of skill and critical understanding far beyond their years and we are very happy that the majority have been offered highly sought after places at some of Scotland’s top colleges, including City of Glasgow College, North Glasgow College, and the Falkirk School of the Creative Arts.
While the show as a whole was of a very high standard, there were a few students that we’re convinced will really blossom in the next few years. These exceptional students included Natasha Naylor who produced some impressive portraits that explored the human form, Nicole Wilson who put together a very interesting proposal for a public art sculpture and Kimberley MacKie printmaking Cityscapes.
We were also very impressed by Riannan Marshall who produced some excellent photography and Danielle McAteer’s large scale expressive work which, along with her detailed drawings, were very successful.
The show runs until the end of the week and we reckon it’s well worth a look. We had yet another very nice evening! Congrats to all involved.
