Colour is a raw material indispensable to life. At every era of his existence and his history, the human being has associated colour with his joys, his actions and his pleasures.
– Frenand Leger.
The works within this exhibition have been created from original responses to specific colours. Each person was allocated a different colour as their initial starting point. Up to three individuals from differing years received the same colour shade. The makers were asked to then consider what their colour meant to them subjectively or universally within society. This series of work aims to convey the various emotions and reactions each colour triggered.
Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways.
– Oscar Wilde.
