The show, which was held at The Kelvingrove Art Gallery, was titled ‘Envisage’ and ran over the weekend. The college event oozed of professionalism and boasted some outstanding collections from Cardonald College’s talented HND Fashion Textile, HND Fashion Design, and HND Fashion Technology students.
The students treated their guests to an array of textile delights from beautiful bridal wear to dramatic theatre costumes. But the standout collection without a doubt was the award winning Harris Tweed Collection, which, in the words of Department Head Alex McCluskey demonstrated “360 degree fashion coverage”. The students were given the opportunity of working with the Harris Tweed industry to produce the fabric, design, cut and manufactured the garments. The final product was truly wonderful.
The show was a genuine team effort and full credit must go to the students who not only designed and manufactured their garments but also took care of hair, makeup and even modeled the clothes.
The group’s technical knowledge and skill should also be commended; together they produced work of the highest standard and executed their imaginative designs with precision tailoring. In fact, the standard of work was so impressive we have no reservations in saying that the level of skill and talent shown by these college student’s ranks up there with the Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art.
Our only negative comment was that watching the show was a bit like having a delicious box of chocolates that was missing the piece of paper that tells you what’s what. There was no way of identifying which student was responsible for each garment which was a little frustrating, however when you’ve got a box full of strawberry creams this is hardly a major hardship.
Easily the best Cardonald Fashion show to have been hosted at Kelvingrove. Well done to all!
